Burn skis, burn!

There’s never a dull moment in Kimberley Alpine Resort! Last night it was time to celebrate, scream and shout and dance around a bonfire – all in the desire for a massive dump of powder! Being a powder lover, the spirit joined the party. There was a lot of chanting, smiling, laughing, roaring, even rolling around in the snow.

Got up this morning – another beautifully sunny day in the paradise that is Kimberley, BC!

Maybe it will snow tonight?!

Well since it hasn’t snowed much in the past few weeks, it might as well be beautifully sunny again! It definitely stands to reason that Kimberley is one of the sunniest places in Canada.

Anyway, the spirit decided it’s time to leave the parameters of Kimberley Alpine Resort and head to Marysville (a whole 10 minute drive) to see the first ever Bootleg Sled Dog Races, a fantastic charity event which has been pumped for months!

If you haven’t been to Bootleg Gap, it’s one of three golf courses in Kimberley (yes, three for a city of about 6500 people!). It’s in the Marysville area of Kimberley and the location is absolutely spectacularly beautiful – no I’m not exaggerating.

Competitors came from near and far, including our very own Craig from Adrenaline Dog Tours whose wife was present with her newly born baby! The event lasts the whole weekend and there are lots of craft stands, a silent auction, refreshments and lots and lots of dogs!

Saturday Feb 14th was Valentines Day of course and another beautiful sunny day in Kimberley Alpine Resort.

The first Annual Family Festival Week drew lots of visitors to Kimberley.

There were scavenger hunts, face painting, a silent auction and more.

Mountain Spirit’s spa girls were out in their bath robes taking photos for guests and dancing along to the DJ’s favourite 90′s dance hits.

At Mountain Spirit’s tent kisses were being given out galore – of the Hershey’s variety!

There was ice skating on the platzl and at the ski hill. Bands played music in the evening in both Kelsey’s and the Stemwinder. Lots of fun was had!

Volkswagen is putting on their Traction Challenge on 21st as part of the end of the Family Festival Week, sounds intriguing…

What did you enjoy the most???

The spirit has been making the most of the conditions at Kimberley Alpine Resort although there has been the temptation to put on the cross country skis and admire the views from Trickle Creek Golf Course… maybe next week – the groomed downhill runs are just too good for now!

Spa girls on the top of the ski hill, whatever next?

Oh yeah… a resort spa in Mountain Spirit at the base of the ski hill! It looked like Mountain Spirit had already opened it’s spa at the top of the quad chair today. To the surprise of many skiers and boarders, two Mountain Spirit Spa Ladies were enjoying the sun and some cucumber facials in anticipation of the Family Festival. It’s happening Feb 13 – 16th and Mountain Spirit spa skiers will be out and about on the hill. Watch out for them – Mountain Spirit will have some great giveaways during the Family Festival weekend!

What’s new in town – the platzl finally has sushi thanks to Derek and the team at the Green Phoenix! In addition to what I call their “fusion” menu inspired from foreign travels, Derek’s opening the doors of the Green Phoenix on Wednesdays to offer the dining experience of sushi! Way to go Derek!

A fan of Asian cuisine, the spirit sampled one of the Saturday night specials at the Village Bistro last night – real Tandoori Chicken – delicious! It’s great to see more East Indian cuisine available in Kimberley.

Yesterday the crowds hit the slopes – crowds of under 12′s competing in ski racing, putting us oldies to shame! The Root Bear was out again today… makes Kimberley feel like a true family resort!

For those without kids who want a bit of fun in the evening, Sunday night is karaoke night in the Edge. Not only can you sing your lungs out on stage in Andy’s pub, but you can also play pool for free. Maybe see you there!
